Legend Story "Lake Toba"

Lake Toba

Lake toba as a legend told was formally a valley. There lived a bachelor named kokar. He lived alone in his house in the valley.  He was a farmer. The valley was very fertile. He was in the rice file until sunset everyday.

             One day he found a big fish in the river not far from his rice field. He caught it and bought it to his house. He left on the table for a moment and when he returned back. He couldn’t find it anymore but he saw a beautiful girl instead. He didn’t have a chance to say anything but the girl said.

“don’t worry a good man. I’m the fish and I’m sent to by my people to be your wife. But you have to know that we have a child, don’t ever say that he or she from a fish”

                Kokar only nodded as if the girl hypnotize him.

                One year later, ha had a son. They named him, samosir. Samosir was very naughty especially to his father.

                One day, when kokar came back from the rice file, he felt hungry and he wanted to have lunch but he was surprised that all the food hade been eaten by samosir. He was very angry and he hit samosir but samosir run away, suddenly kokar said.

“samosir u really a naughty boy coz u’re from a fish” having heard it samosir cried and when to his mother who was in the yard.

“mother is right that im from a fish?”

“who say that my son?” samosir mother said worriedly

“father said, he was angry whit me and say that”

“oh my son coz u very naughty and u’re father forgot his fromise. So this valey must be destroyed. Now go to the mountain top away!”

                Samosir panicked and he run away to the top mountain. Suddenly the area became dark. His mother went back to fish, samosir and kokar shot down a thunderbolt and died.

                The valley was filled with water and became a lake until now, named lake toba. And the mountain become as island in the middle of lake toba. Now we called the island, samosir.
